Creationism in Gallup Poll

The Gallup organization has released results of another poll on creationism, showing that 46% of respondents in the US believe that God created humans in their present form. The figure has remained relativey constant since 1982, when the question first appeared in a Gallup poll, varying from 40 to 47% during the past four decades. The poll may or may not reveal anything familiar to you, depending on your knowledge of past polls, but it still is worth reading this brief report.

Interesting hike from 2011-2012...

Perhaps more respondants, or a genuine increase in belief of Creationism...

What do you think about the research findings in practical application? How should this effect us?

And I do find it funny/interesting at how Church Attendance is a primary measure of religiosity...

Perhaps we could do the same sort of poll with intrinsic/extrinsic religiosity accounted for...

Nevermind my babble, I just wonder if we are debating and analyzing our research "perspectives" so to speak...

I realize at some time, research needs to be done, and friendly debate about which scales to use, or which variables to measure must be laid to rest... But have we found the happy medium between the two?

Church attendance is often used in polls, but hardly the measure that I would see for psychological or social-psychological measures.

I'm not sure how much to make of the bump from '11 to '12. The difference is just slightly larger than the margin of error. I can't help but wonder how much might be attributable to people's dissatisfaction with the economy, and a reaction to the echo chamber that encourages polarization of opinions on social issues. I'd like to see a good study that takes these kinds of factors into account.
